South Oroville is a census-designated place (CDP) in Butte County, California, United States. The population was 15,552 at the 2010 census, up from 10,365 at the 2000 census.

The town of Oroville is located at the southern end of the CDP, and other unincorporated areas within the CDP include Kelly Ridge, Canyon Creek, and Thermalito. South Oroville has grown rapidly in recent years due to its proximity to the Oroville Dam, which is located just north of the town.

The dam is the tallest in the United States and is a key part of the California State Water Project. The Oroville Dam spillway was damaged in February 2017, leading to the evacuation of over 188,000 people living downstream of the dam.

South Oroville is a diverse community with a variety of businesses and amenities. The town is home to a hospital, a community college, and a number of parks and recreation areas. There are also several golf courses in the area.
