About Chalfant CDP, California
Chalfant is a census-designated place (CDP) in Mono County, California, United States. The population was 48 at the 2010 census, up from 33 at the 2000 census. It is located along U.S. Route 395 northeast of Bridgeport.
Chalfant was established as a stagecoach stop in 1861. It was named for James Chalfant, an early settler and rancher in the area. A post office operated at Chalfant from 1866 to 1955.
The community is now home to a general store, a cafe, a gas station, and a few other businesses. It is a popular stopping point for travelers on Highway 395.
