Los Osos is a census-designated place (CDP) in San Luis Obispo County, California, United States. The population was 14,276 at the 2010 census. It is part of the San Luis Obispo – Atascadero – Paso Robles metropolitan statistical area.

The community is largely residential, with several small businesses. There are two small shopping centers in the town center, one containing a supermarket and various other shops, and the other containing a hardware store and various offices. Los Osos also has a public library and a elementary school.

The origins of the name “Los Osos” are uncertain. One theory is that it is a corruption of the Spanish term for bear, oso. Another possibility is that it was named after the many bear-shaped sandstone formations found in the nearby hills.
