About Casa de Oro-Mount Helix CDP, California
Casa de Oro-Mount Helix is a census-designated place (CDP) in San Diego County, California. The population was 19,592 at the 2010 census. The CDP includes the neighborhoods of Casa de Oro and Mount Helix.
The area now known as Casa de Oro was originally part of Rancho Jamul, a Mexican land grant. In the 1860s, American settlers began to arrive in the area, and by the 1880s, several farms had been established. In 1912, the community was officially named Casa de Oro, and a post office was established.
The Mount Helix area was developed in the early 20th century as a summer retreat for wealthy San Diegans. A number of large homes were built on the slopes of Mount Helix, and a hotel and observatory were also constructed.
Today, Casa de Oro-Mount Helix is a diverse community with a strong sense of history and community pride. The area is home to several parks and recreation facilities, as well as schools and businesses.
