Rosamond is home to dry lakes that were once part of the Mojave Desert Lakebeds. These lakes were formed after the last glacial period approximately 10,000 years ago. Today they are used for recreation and racing, including land speed record attempts. The dry lakes located closest to Rosamond are Rogers Dry Lake and Munster Dry Lake.
