Riverside County is a county located in the southern part of the U.S. state of California. As of the 2010 census, the population was 2,189,641, making it the fourth-most populous county in California and the 11th-most populous in the United States. The name was derived from the city of Riverside, which is the county seat.
Riverside County is included in the Riverside-San Bernardino-Ontario, CA Metropolitan Statistical Area, also known as the Inland Empire. The county is also included in the Los Angeles-Long Beach, CA Combined Statistical Area.
Geographically, Riverside County covers a large area. It is the fifth-largest county in California by land area. It spans from the desert areas east of Los Angeles all the way to the mountains north of San Diego. The county has many different ecosystems and features a variety of wildlife.
The economy of Riverside County is fairly diverse. Agriculture is a major industry in the eastern part of the county, while tourism and service industries dominate the western part. The county is home to a number of universities and colleges, which contribute to the local economy.
