Clarksburg is a census-designated place (CDP) in Yolo County, California, United States. The population was 2,961 at the 2010 census. Clarksburg is located 10 miles (16 km) south-southeast of Woodland, at an elevation of 115 feet (35 m). It is part of the Sacramento metropolitan area.
The first post office opened in Clarksburg in 1881. Clarksburg was named after John C. Clark, who settled there in 1864 and donated land for a railroad depot.
Most of the early residents of Clarksburg were farmers of Italian, Portuguese, or Swiss descent. The town has a large winery community, with over 30 wineries located within its boundaries. The Delta breeze provides a cooler microclimate for the grapes to grow.
In recent years, Clarksburg has become a bedroom community for people working in the Sacramento area. There has been some controversy over whether or not to allow more development in the town, as it would change the small-town feel that many residents enjoy.
