About Honcut CDP, California

Honcut CDP, California is a census-designated place (CDP) in Butte County, California, United States. The population was 1,232 at the 2010 census, up from 1,197 at the 2000 census. Honcut is located along State Route 99 3 miles (5 km) southeast of Oroville.

The town is named for James D. Honcut, who settled in the area in 1848. A post office was established in 1852, and Honcut became a stop on the Central Pacific Railroad in 1864. The town grew rapidly during the late 19th century, reaching a peak population of over 1,000 in the 1890s. However, the population declined after 1900, and by the 1970s only a few businesses remained.

Today, Honcut is a small community with a few businesses and residences. However, it remains an important agricultural center for the surrounding area.
