Sleepy Hollow CDP, California is a census-designated place (CDP) in Marin County, California, United States. It is located 3.5 miles (5.6 km) southwest of downtown Novato, at an elevation of 36 feet (11 m). The population was 4,316 at the 2010 census.
Sleepy Hollow was originally an unincorporated community in Marin County, which was annexed by the city of Novato in 1961. The name Sleepy Hollow was derived from the Washington Irving story “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow”. In the early 1900s, the area was known for its horse ranches and dairy farms.
Today, Sleepy Hollow is a bedroom community of Novato with a rural feel. There are several open space preserves nearby, including Mount Burdell and Olompali State Parks.
