Pioneer CDP, California is located in the Sierra Nevada foothills and was founded in 1849 during the California Gold Rush. The town was originally called “Mormon Station” but was later renamed to Pioneer after the local post office was established. The town is home to a few hundred residents and is a popular destination for tourists visiting the nearby Lake Tahoe area.
