Ashland CDP, California is a census-designated place (CDP) in San Joaquin County, California, United States. The population was 21,292 at the 2010 census.

Ashland CDP is located in the southern part of the county, south of Stockton and west of Lodi. It is bordered to the north by the city of Tracy.

The Ashland CDP includes the unincorporated community of Ashland as well as the adjacent community of Banta. Both are served by the same post office.

Ashland was founded in 1848 by German immigrant Jacob Haun. It was originally named “Haun’s Mill” after its founder. A post office was established in 1851 and the name was changed to “Ashland”, after the ash trees that grew in the area.

The community of Banta was named after George Banta, who owned a stagecoach stop there. Banta Post Office was established in 1874.

Both Ashland and Banta were originally farming communities. In recent years, however, they have become bedroom communities for Tracy and Stockton.
