About Pearsonville CDP, California

Pearsonville is a census-designated place (CDP) in Inyo County, California, United States. The population was 1,023 at the 2010 census, up from 829 at the 2000 census. It is located on U.S. Route 395 in the Owens Valley, between Independence and Big Pine.

Pearsonville was established as a stop on the Los Angeles and Independence Railroad in 1908. It was named for George Pearson, the superintendent of the railroad. The town originally had a depot, water tank, and a few buildings. A post office was established in 1909.

By the 1920s, Pearsonville had a general store, a blacksmith shop, and a garage. The town continued to grow through the 1950s and 1960s, reaching a peak population of around 1,500. However, the construction of the Los Angeles Aqueduct in the Owens Valley led to the decline of Pearsonville and many other towns in the area. The population began to drop in the 1970s, and has continued to do so since then.

Today, Pearsonville is a small town with a population of just over 1,000 people. There are a few businesses in town, including a gas station and a general store. The town is home to several historical buildings, including the Pearsonville Depot and the old post office.
