Salton City is a census-designated place (CDP) in Imperial County, California, United States. The population was 3,763 at the 2010 census, up from 978 in 2000. It is the largest city in the Salton Sea CDPs. Salton City is located on the shore of the Salton Sea 50 miles (80 km) south-southeast of Palm Springs and about 30 miles (50 km) north of the Mexican border.

The town began as a community of the Salton Riviera, an irrigation project along the Salton Sea’s northeastern shore established in the early 1900s. The sea began to fill with agricultural runoff, and by the mid-20th century it had become one of the largest inland bodies of water in the world. The area was designated as a CDP in 1968.

Salton City has experienced several periods of growth and decline since its founding. The most recent boom began in the late 1990s and ended abruptly with the recession of 2007–08. The town has a high vacancy rate, and many of its properties are in poor condition.
