About Allendale CDP, California

Allendale is a census-designated place (CDP) in Marin County, California, United States. Allendale is located 3.5 miles (5.6 km) south-southeast of Novato, at an elevation of 115 feet (35 m). The population was 1,92 at the 2010 census.

Allendale was originally part of Rancho Novato, a Mexican land grant of 1839. In 1856, James Black purchased Rancho Novato and built a sawmill in Allendale. A post office opened in Allendale in 1861. The community was named for Dr. James Allendale, an early postmaster.

Allendale remained a rural community until the 1950s, when housing developments began to be built. Today, Allendale is a bedroom community for the city of Novato.
