About Aromas CDP, California

Aromas CDP, California is a census-designated place located in San Benito County. The population was 3,267 at the 2010 census. The town is located on the Pajaro River near its confluence with Arroyo Seco.

The area around Aromas was first settled by the Ohlone people. In 1769, the Spanish explorer Gaspar de Portolá camped in the area while leading an expedition north from Monterey. The town was founded in 1864 by Dr. James A. Belshaw, who named it for the local aromas of wildflowers and sagebrush.

Today, Aromas is a small town with a rural feel. Agriculture is still important to the local economy, and many residents commute to nearby cities for work. The town is home to a number of small businesses, including a winery, a brewery, and a cidery. There are also several parks and recreation areas in the vicinity, making it a great place to enjoy the outdoors.
