Atascadero is a city in San Luis Obispo County, California, about equidistant between Los Angeles and San Francisco on the Central Coast. Atascadero is part of the San Luis Obispo – Atascadero – Paso Robles metropolitan area. The main freeway through town, U.S. Route 101, is a four-lane divided highway. The Atascadero Zoo is located just off Highway 101. Charles Paddock Zoo, named after a former mayor of Atascadero, is another zoo located in Atascadero. It is home to many animals, including tigers, lions, and bears.
