About Bethel Island CDP, California

Bethel Island is a census-designated place (CDP) in Contra Costa County, California, United States. The population was 2,137 at the 2010 census.

The island is located in the San Joaquin-Sacramento Delta and is east of Antioch. It is about 3 miles (4.8 km) east of Discovery Bay. The island is accessible by boat or bridge from Antioch. It is part of the East Contra Costa Ferry District.

The island was originally known as “Isla de los Osos” (Bear Island) because of the many bears that were once found there.
