About Bombay Beach CDP, California

Bombay Beach is a census-designated place (CDP) in Imperial County, California, United States. The population was 1,174 at the 2010 census, down from 1,602 at the 2000 census. It is part of the ‘El Centro, California Metropolitan Statistical Area’.

The area known as Bombay Beach was originally a fishing village on the Colorado River Delta. It was later developed as a resort community. However, due to declining water levels in the Salton Sea, it has become a ghost town.

Despite its decline, Bombay Beach still attracts visitors from all over. The abandoned buildings and rusted boats offer a unique and eerie experience.
