About Bonny Doon CDP, California

Bonny Doon is a census-designated place (CDP) in Santa Cruz County, California, United States. It is situated along the San Lorenzo River about 3.5 miles (5.6 km) east of downtown Santa Cruz and 19 miles (31 km) southwest of San Jose. The population was 2,678 at the 2010 census.

Bonny Doon’s rural character and scenic beauty has made it a popular location for artists and writers. It is also home to the University of California Santa Cruz Farm & Garden Program. The Bonny Doon area includes the communities of Pine Flat, Martin Road, and Swanton Pacific Ranch.

The name “Bonny Doon” is thought to be a corruption of the Scottish phrase “bonnie dune,” meaning “beautiful hill.”
