About Camptonville CDP, California

Camptonville CDP, California is a census-designated place in Yuba County, California, United States. The population was 1,037 at the 2010 census. Camptonville is located along State Route 49, 16 miles (26 km) northwest of Marysville.

The place was named after John W. Campton, who settled there in 1852. A post office operated at Camptonville from 1854 to 1856 and from 1858 to the present day.

The first significant gold discovery in California was made at the Eureka Mine near Camptonville in 1850. Hydraulic mining continued in the area until the 1890s.
