Cohasset is a census-designated place (CDP) in Del Norte County, California, United States. The population was 1,951 at the 2010 census, up from 1,863 at the 2000 census. It is located on the North Coast of California, about halfway between the Oregon border and the city of Eureka.
The community of Cohasset was originally settled by loggers and farmers in the late 19th century. The town was named after the nearby Cohasset Mountain, which was named by early settlers for its resemblance to the town of Cohasset in Massachusetts.
Cohasset is a popular destination for fishing, hunting, and camping. The Smith River, which flows through the town, is known for its steelhead trout fishing. There are also several lakes in the area that are popular for fishing and camping, including Lake Earl and Lake Tolowa.
The climate in Cohasset is milder than most of California, due to its proximity to the Pacific Ocean. The average high temperature in July is only about 70 degrees Fahrenheit, and the average low in January is around 40 degrees.
