El Centro is a city in California’s Imperial Valley. The city is the county seat of Imperial County and has a population of about 45,000 people.

The city was founded in 1906 and was originally named “The Center” because it was the center of the valley. The name was later changed to “El Centro” because of the large Spanish-speaking population in the area.

El Centro is known for its agriculture and its position as the southernmost city in the continental United States. The city has a warm climate and is a popular destination for snowbirds from colder climates.

El Centro is also home to a number of military facilities, including the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center Twentynine Palms and the Naval Air Facility El Centro.
