About Fort Bidwell CDP, California

Fort Bidwell is a census-designated place in Modoc County, California, United States. The population was 190 at the 2010 census. It is located on the Pit River, northeast of Alturas.

The community was named after John Bidwell, a pioneer and founder of Chico, California. A fort was built in the area in 1857 by the United States Army during the Rogue River Wars. It was abandoned in 1865.
