About Fruitdale CDP, California

Fruitdale is a census-designated place (CDP) in Santa Cruz County, California, United States. The population was 4,565 at the 2010 census. It is located on the north side of Santa Cruz, along Highway 1.

Fruitdale was originally settled by the Ohlone people. In 1866, the Fruitdale post office opened. The community was named for the abundance of fruit trees in the area.

Fruitdale is home to several businesses and organizations, including the Santa Cruz County Farm Bureau, California State University Monterey Bay, and the Santa Cruz SPCA.
