About Gold Mountain CDP, California

Gold Mountain is a census-designated place (CDP) in Placer County, California, United States. The population was 3,761 at the 2010 census. Gold Mountain is located along Interstate 80, northeast of Auburn.

Gold Mountain was originally called Forest Hill. The first post office opened in 1864. The Gold Mountain post office opened in 1894. The name Forest Hill was restored in 1896. In 1900, the name of the community was changed to Gold Mountain.
