About Inverness CDP, California

Inverness is a census-designated place (CDP) in Marin County, California, United States. It is located 3.5 miles (5.6 km) west-southwest of Novato, at an elevation of 115 feet (35 m). The population was 1,304 at the 2010 census.

The community is named after Inverness in Scotland. Scottish settlers arrived in the 1800s, and many place names in the area are of Scottish origin.

Inverness is surrounded by open space preserve, including Mount Burdell Open Space Preserve to the north and south, and White Hill Open Space Preserve to the east. There are several hiking trails in the area, including the Miwok Trail which leads to the top of Mount Burdell.

Inverness is served by a branch of the Marin County Free Library.
