Kirkwood is a census-designated place (CDP) in Alpine County, California, United States. The population was 793 at the 2010 census, up from 719 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Sacramento–Arden-Arcade–Roseville Metropolitan Statistical Area.
The Kirkwood Ski Resort is located in the CDP. Kirkwood Mountain Resort is a large winter sports area with 29 chairlifts and 2 surface lifts. The resort has a 2,000 foot (610 m) vertical drop. It receives an average of 500 inches (1,300 cm) of snowfall per season and has 140 acres (57 ha) of skiable terrain.
