Marina del Rey is a census-designated place (CDP) in Los Angeles County, California, United States. The population was 8,866 at the 2010 census. Marina del Rey is an affluent unincorporated seaside community and a neighborhood of the city of Los Angeles, surrounded by the communities of Venice and Playa del Rey on the north, and the city of Culver City on the southwest.

The harbor, the Los Angeles Times said in 1997, is “the county’s most valuable natural resource”. The area is a popular tourist destination for boaters and has a strong sports fishing industry. The beach hosts volleyball games, surfing competitions, and swimming races. Visitors can rent jet skis, sailboats, and powerboats. There are also parasailing, kayaking, and paddleboarding opportunities. Bird watching is also popular in the area, with species such as Western Grebes, Brown Pelicans, and American Coots being regularly sighted.
