About Mentone CDP, California

Mentone is a census-designated place in San Bernardino County, California, United States. The population was 8,720 at the 2010 census, up from 7,803 at the 2000 census. It is located 3.5 miles east-northeast of downtown Redlands and 3.4 miles northwest of Loma Linda.

Mentone was established in 1887 as a railroad town along the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway. A post office opened in 1888. The community was named by Southern Pacific Railroad officials for Mentone, Alabama, where many of the railroad’s executives had vacation homes.

Mentone is predominantly residential with commercial businesses located on Mentone Boulevard near Interstate 10. The primary geographic feature of Mentone is Mill Creek Wash which runs north and south through the middle of town.
