About Middletown CDP, California

Middletown is a census-designated place (CDP) in Lake County, California, United States. The population was 2,291 at the 2010 census, up from 1,323 at the 2000 census.

Middletown was originally established as a stagecoach stop in 1881. It was then known as Middleton, but the name was changed to Middletown in 1916. The community is now a popular destination for tourists visiting wine country.

Middletown is located at the junction of State Routes 29 and 175. It is about 10 miles (16 km) north of Napa and about 60 miles (97 km) north of San Francisco.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 4.4 square miles (11.4 km2), all of it land.
