About Mira Monte CDP, California

Mira Monte is a census-designated place (CDP) in the San Luis Obispo County, California. It is located near the city of Atascadero, in the central coast region of the state. As of the 2010 census, the CDP had a population of 2,625.

Mira Monte was founded in 1868 as a stagecoach stop along the Camino Real, the historic trade route between Los Angeles and Monterey. The community grew slowly over the next few decades, and by the early twentieth century it had a post office, schoolhouse, and general store. In the mid-twentieth century, Mira Monte began to grow more rapidly, as the local economy shifted from agriculture to tourism and suburban development. Today, Mira Monte is a bedroom community for Atascadero and San Luis Obispo, with a mix of residential and commercial development.
