About Montecito CDP, California

Montecito is a census-designated place (CDP) in Santa Barbara County, California. It comprises the unincorporated areas of Montecito and Summerland. As of the 2010 census, the CDP had a population of 8,965.

The area known as Montecito, lying between the towns of Carpinteria and Santa Barbara, was originally inhabited by the Chumash people. The first European settlers arrived in the early 19th century and established ranches.

In 2018, Montecito made headlines when it was hit by a devastating mudslide. The slide, which was caused by heavy rains, killed 23 people and destroyed dozens of homes.

Despite this tragedy, Montecito remains a beautiful and desirable place to live. It is home to many celebrities and wealthy individuals, and its stunning scenery and Mediterranean climate make it a popular tourist destination.
