About Oildale CDP, California

Oildale is a census-designated place (CDP) in Kern County, California, United States. The population was 24,292 at the 2010 census, up from 20,292 at the 2000 census. Oildale is located 3.1 miles (5 km) north of downtown Bakersfield and 2 miles (3.2 km) east-northeast of CSU Bakersfield.

The history of Oildale begins with the discovery of oil in the region in the late 19th century. The area quickly became a center for oil production, and a community developed around the industry. In 1910, the Standard Oil Company built a refinery in Oildale, which was operated until 1987.

Today, Oildale is a diverse community with a strong sense of pride. The city has its own police and fire departments, and its own school district. There are several parks and recreation facilities, as well as a variety of businesses and services.
