About Picayune Rancheria and Off-Reservation Trust Land, California

The Picayune Rancheria is a small band of Chumash Native Americans who live in California. They have been granted a small parcel of land, called an off-reservation trust land, which is held in trust by the United States government for their use and benefit. The Picayune Rancheria is not recognized as a federally recognized tribe, but they are still eligible for certain benefits and programs from the Bureau of Indian Affairs. The Picayune Rancheria is currently working to obtain federal recognition, which would give them access to more benefits and programs.
