Potrero CDP is a census-designated place (CDP) in San Diego County, California, United States. The population was 3,386 at the 2010 census. It is part of the El Cajon, California metropolitan area.
The community was originally established as a small farming community in the late 19th century. It remained a rural community until the 1950s when suburban development began to encroach from nearby El Cajon. Today, Potrero is a bedroom community with most residents commuting to jobs in the city.
