Rancho Mirage is a city in Riverside County, California, United States. The population was 17,218 at the 2010 census, up from 13,249 at the 2000 census. It is one of the nine cities of the Coachella Valley.

Rancho Mirage was incorporated in 1973 from a merger of Mirage Cove with five unincorporated areas known as the Airport Landings, Magnesia Falls, Paradise View Estates, Tamarisk Ranches, and Thunderbird Heights.

The city is located in the inland Empire region of Southern California, about midway between Los Angeles and San Bernardino on Interstate 10. Rancho Mirage is bordered on the east by the city of Palm Desert and on the south, west and north by unincorporated areas of Riverside County.

The area now known as Rancho Mirage was originally inhabited by the Cahuilla people. In 1696, the area was explored by Spanish priest Juan Crespi, who named it “Valley of the Little Hills.” In 1917–1918, during World War I, much of the area was used for military training grounds by U.S. troops preparing to fight in Europe.
