Smith River CDP, California is a census-designated place (CDP) in Del Norte County, California, United States. The population was 1,640 at the 2010 census, up from 1,617 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Del Norte County.

The Smith River CDP includes the unincorporated community of Smith River as well as the surrounding rural area. The CDP extends north to the Oregon border and south to the mouth of the Smith River. It includes the western half of Jedediah Smith State Park.

The Smith River is the only major river in California that is undammed. It flows through a pristine wilderness area and is home to several endangered species, including the coho salmon and steelhead trout. The river is popular for fishing, camping, and hiking.
