About South Whittier CDP, California

South Whittier CDP, California is a census-designated place located in Los Angeles County. The population was 24,272 at the 2010 census.

The area now known as South Whittier was originally inhabited by the Gabrielino people, a tribe of the Tongva Native Americans. The first European settlers arrived in the early 1800s, and the area soon became part of the Rancho La Habra land grant.

In the early 1900s, dairy farms began to dot the landscape, and the area became known as the “Dairy Capital of the World.” Today, South Whittier is a diverse community with a strong sense of history and community pride.
