About Sunny Slopes CDP, California

Sunny Slopes is a census-designated place (CDP) in Kern County, California, United States. The population was 2,502 at the 2010 census, up from 1,924 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Bakersfield metropolitan area.

The CDP includes the unincorporated community of Sunny Slopes as well as the surrounding rural area. The community is located on California State Route 178, about 10 miles (16 km) east of downtown Bakersfield.

Sunny Slopes was originally settled by ranchers and farmers in the late 19th century. The community became a stop on the Southern Pacific Railroad line in 1874. A post office was established in 1876.

The Sunny Slopes CDP has a total area of 5.9 square miles (15 km2), all land.
