About Tipton CDP, California

Tipton CDP is a census-designated place in Tulare County, California. The population was 2,275 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Visalia Metropolitan Statistical Area.

The town is located on the west side of the San Joaquin Valley, on the west bank of the Tule River. It is east of Visalia and south of Porterville. Highway 190 runs through the center of town.

Tipton was founded in 1884 as a stop on the Visalia-Porterville stagecoach line. The town was named for Levi Tipton, an early settler. A post office was established in 1885.

The Tipton Elementary School District serves the community. There are three schools in the district: Tipton Elementary School, Tipton Middle School, and Tipton High School.

The climate in this area is characterized by hot, dry summers and cool, wet winters. According to the Köppen Climate Classification system, Tipton CDP has a warm-summer Mediterranean climate, abbreviated “Csb” on climate maps.
