About Truckee town, California

Truckee is a town in Nevada County, California, United States. The population was 16,180 at the 2010 census. Truckee is located along Interstate 80 between Reno and Lake Tahoe.

The town is named after a Native American chief, whose tribe once inhabited the area. Chief Truckee’s grandson, Nathanial, became a scout for John C. Fremont during the Bear Flag Republic period and the Mexican-American War.

Truckee is a popular tourist destination for both winter and summer activities. In the winter, the town is home to several ski resorts, including Northstar California Resort and Sugar Bowl Ski Resort. In the summer, visitors can enjoy hiking, mountain biking, and rafting on the Truckee River.
