About Winterhaven CDP, California

Winterhaven is a census-designated place (CDP) in Imperial County, California, United States. The population was 1,856 at the 2010 census, up from 1,759 at the 2000 census. It is part of the ‘El Centro, California Metropolitan Statistical Area’.

The town was established in 1909 and named after William H. Winter, its first postmaster. The town’s economy has long been based on agriculture, and it is still known for its date palms. However, in recent years the economy has diversified with the addition of tourism and other industries.

Winterhaven is located at 32°48′20″N 115°36′52″W (32.805996, -115.614557).

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 2.0 square miles (5.2 km²), all land.
