About Challenge-Brownsville CDP, California

Challenge-Brownsville is a census-designated place (CDP) in San Bernardino County, California, United States. The population was 2,036 at the 2010 census, up from 1,407 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Victor Valley subregion of the Mojave Desert.

The community is located along State Route 58, 10 miles (16 km) east of Barstow and 65 miles (105 km) northeast of Victorville. According to the United States Census Bureau, Challenge-Brownsville has a total area of 6.8 square miles (17.6 km2), all of it land.

The CDP consists of several small communities: Challenge, Brownsville, Newberry Springs, and Daggett. The area has a history of mining and ranching. The primary economic activity now is transportation and logistics, with many companies operating warehouses and distribution centers in the area.
