About Gazelle CDP, California

Gazelle is a census-designated place in California’s San Joaquin Valley. The population was 1,383 at the 2010 census. Gazelle is located on State Route 198, 12mi east of Coalinga.

Gazelle was founded in 1891 by John and Nancy Gazelle. The town was named for the many gazelles that inhabited the area. The Gazelles built a store and post office in the town, and the community quickly grew.

Today, Gazelle is a small but thriving community. The town has a grocery store, a gas station, and a few other businesses. There is also a school and a community park. Residents of Gazelle enjoy the quiet, rural lifestyle the town offers.
