Lake Mathews is a census-designated place (CDP) in Riverside County, California, United States. The population was 10,219 at the 2010 census, up from 8,201 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Elsinore Valley Community.
The community is located along the I-15 freeway south of Corona. The CDP includes the unincorporated communities of Lake Mathews and Gavilan Hills.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 18.3 square miles (47 km2), of which, 18.1 square miles (47 km2) of it is land and 0.2 square miles (0.52 km2) of it (1.28%) is water.
