About Round Mountain CDP, California

The Round Mountain CDP is located in the Sierra Nevada foothills, northeast of Shaver Lake and southeast of Fresno. The population was 2,162 at the 2010 census. The CDP includes the unincorporated community of Round Mountain and the surrounding area.

The area around Round Mountain was first settled by the Mono people, who used the site as a hunting ground. In 1851, a group of settlers from Mariposa County established a mining camp on Round Mountain, which they called Hardscrabble. Mining continued in the area until the early 20th century.

Round Mountain is now a popular recreation destination, with hiking, camping, and fishing in the nearby mountains and lakes.
