About Squaw Valley CDP, California

Squaw Valley is a census-designated place in Placer County, California, United States. The population was 610 at the 2010 census. It is the site of Squaw Valley Ski Resort, which hosted the 1960 Winter Olympics.

The area now known as Squaw Valley was first inhabited by the Washoe people. In the late 19th century, it became a mining area, and in the 1940s it was developed into a ski resort by Wayne Poulsen. The resort hosted the 1960 Winter Olympics, and has since become one of the largest ski resorts in North America.
