Squirrel Mountain Valley is a census-designated place (CDP) in San Bernardino County, California, United States. The population was 1,049 at the 2010 census, up from 861 at the 2000 census.
The community is located along California State Route 18, 3.5 miles (5.6 km) west-southwest of Big Bear City.
Squirrel Mountain Valley was originally settled by ranchers in the late 19th century. The first post office in the area opened in 1925. The community was formerly known as “Strawberry Flats” before taking its current name in the 1950s.
