About West Rancho Dominguez CDP, California

West Rancho Dominguez CDP, California is a census-designated place in Los Angeles County, California. The population was 8,612 at the 2010 census, up from 5,001 at the 2000 census. It is located about halfway between Long Beach and Los Angeles.

The area now known as West Rancho Dominguez was originally part of Rancho San Pedro, one of the first Spanish ranchos in California. In 1822, Juan Jose Dominguez was granted the rancho by the Spanish government. He built a adobe house on the site which is now known as the Dominguez Adobe.

In the early 1900s, the area began to be developed for agriculture. The United States Army had an airfield in the area during World War II which was later closed. The area remained mostly rural until the 1970s when it began to be developed for residential and commercial use.
